Hang With The Best 2012

MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO ENTER ‘HANG WITH BEST’

Students from the Conejo Valley and surrounding areas are invited to participate and submit original art in “Hang With the Best.” This juried, student art show, sponsored by the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, “The Voice of the Arts” will take place January 23 through February 16, 2012. The exhibit will be held at The Galleria at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

Kristi Colell of Camarillo, Hang with the Best Chair and ACCV board member, reports that students may enter one piece of art in any one of the following categories: Painting (oil and acrylic), Painting (watercolor, pastel), Photography, Drawing, 3 Dimensional (ceramics and sculpture), and Miscellaneous (printmaking, collage, digital art).

Colell and the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley invite the public to see the admission-free show, and also to attend the Awards Reception at the Hillcrest Center, Thursday, February 16, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Cash and prizes will be awarded to winning entrants, along with certificates, said Colell. The three judges for the exhibit are:

Dan Welden, International Printmaker, who will be serving as resident artist at California Lutheran University during the month of February, 2012. Dan Welden is a master printmaker, painter, teacher and author. He has been making prints and works on paper for over 40 years. His work has been in over 65 international solo exhibitions in museums and galleries and over 500 group exhibitions in the US, Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand and Peru. Dan is the co-author of ‘Printmaking in the Sun’, the comprehensive manual of solarplate methods.

Dominique Colell, International winning Ice Carver, accepted into the 2011 Guiness Book of World Records, art teacher, art performer and owner of Images In Ice, is returning to adjudicate the 2012 Hang With the Best  scholarship contest.

Myrna Ratcliffe, 27 year veteran photography instructor for CVUSD and Staff photographer for the Marines, is a prize winning printmaker. Ratcliffe joins the judges for Hang With the Best  scholarship contest.

There is no charge for admission to see either the show or attend the public reception. The show can be viewed daily from 9 am until 5 pm.
