1st Art Reception at UBS Profiled in Society Magazine

In Fall 2011, the Arts Council partnered with UBS in Westlake Village to produce the bank’s very first art exhibit held in its headquarters. A private art reception was held in conjunction with the exhibit. Society Magazine profiled the event. Click here to view the article. The Arts Council and UBS have continued this relationship into 2012, with the new show “Images,” which just held its reception last week.

Hang With The Best 2012 begins January 23!

Students from the Conejo Valley and surrounding areas are invited to participate and submit original art in “Hang With the Best.” This juried, student art show, sponsored by the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, “The Voice of the Arts” will take place January 23 through February 16, 2012. The exhibit will be held at The Galleria at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. Entry forms are available at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.

Tea and Gratitude Luncheon

On October 29th, Brenda and Scott Cochran of Newbury Park invited the ACCV Board of Directors to their home to show appreciation for all that we do as community volunteers. They hosted a lovely luncheon, called Tea and Gratitude. Their hospitality was much appreciated, and everyone had an unforgettable time.

ACCV’s next exhibition in the Galleria at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts is Celebreating Artists: An intimate look, Portraits by Donna Granata. View full details here. The photographic exhibition can be viewed from October 19-January 17.

The public is invited to attend an artist’s reception Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.   Donna Granata will present a special lecture titled An Intimate Look on Wednesday, November 16, 7 to 8:30 p.m. where the photographer will share an overview of the Focus on the Masters (FOTM) archive and the amount of in-depth documentation involved with each artist photographed. The lecture is free.

Braille Institute Collaboration Continues with Special Workshop

On Friday, September 23, the Braille Institute presented a special workshop called “Sculpting in the Dark.” Instructors Tish Brennan and Lynn Schwanauer led 20 participants in creating sculptures using their sense of touch, memory, and imagination. The current ACCV Art Exhibit at the Galleria in the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, “Food 4 Thought” features sculptures and other works by low vision artists from the Braille Institute, among other pieces of art incorporating food imagery. “Food 4 Thought” runs through October 10. Viewing hours are normally 9am-5pm, 7 days a week. Call the Hillcrest Center at (805) 381-2747 for information on extended viewing hours in the evening.

First ACCV Art Reception at UBS a Success

A private art reception was held at the new UBS headquarters, 3011 Townsgate Road in Westlake Village The offices were filled with art and sculpture by ACCV Board Members Connie Tunick, Geri Schonberg, Judith Crowe, Gordon Durich, Theodora Ilowitz, and Janet Amiri. The pictures were taken on the third floor balcony with its beautiful views of Ladyface Mountain and the Conejo Valley. Over a hundred guests attended the reception; ACCV President Kitty Dill addressed the crowd, talking about the importance of community collaboration.

This is the first art exhibit held in the UBS headquarters. Geri Schonberg did a great job of coordinating this show, along with Louis Skertich and John Short of UBS. Manager Lou Skertich said this is the first of many receptions which will be hosted by UBS. Work can be viewed through November 14th at the above address from 9 am to 5 pm.

On May 7, the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery hosted the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley’s Artists’ Reception for the show “Elements: Art of the Earth, Wind, Fire, and Sea.” Society Magazine covered the event. New Art Exhibit in Galleria at Hillcrest Center for the Arts

The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, “The Voice of The Arts,” presents “Food 4 Thought” in the Galleria at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, 91360. Dates of the exhibit are July 7 through October 10, 2011. An Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday, August 20th from 4-6 pm at the Hillcrest Center. The public is invited to attend.

The name of this invitational show is “Food 4 Thought” and many of the thirteen artists have food imagery in their art. You will see everything from pears to coffee to vegetables, and an assemblage of a Thanksgiving feast.

Participating Thousand Oaks artists are Janet Amiri, Jill Friedman, Geri Gretan, Theodora Ilowitz, Mimi Lieberman, Barbara Shannon, and Gary Talbot. Westlake Village artists are Louisa Wallace Jacobs, Geri Schonberg, and Alistair Stevenson. Also showing are: Featured Artist, Helene Oppenheimer of Agoura Hills; Phyllis J. Doyon of Camarillo; and Barbara Margolies, Woodland Hills.

Mark your calendar too for Sept. 23, a remarkable collaborative art event with Braille Institute and the Arts Council, in tandem with Hillcrest Center. On this day, the Galleria’s “Food For Thought” exhibit features a tactile and descriptive tour of selected pieces. This unusual opportunity will give all participants a rare chance to explore art through their sense of touch and to visualize art through verbal descriptions. To raise public awareness about making art and culture a part of life for adults and children affected by sight loss. This Sept. 23 event is free, however, due to limited room capacity, workshop reservations are required. For the Sept. 23 program, brown-bag lunch and workshop reservations, call the Braille Institute, either Tish Brennan, (805) 895-0587, or Lynn Schwanauer, (805) 895-1176.

In addition to the one-day event, several visually impaired artists will also be entering selected pieces for the show.
