Here are some of the ways the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley serves the arts and the community:

ARTS SCENE (formerly ARTS CALENDAR) - is the widely distributed bimonthly publication produced by the Arts Council to promote the programs and activities of all member cultural organizations and individual artist patrons. It is mailed to every member organization, patron, public official, print and electronic media, and arts venue throughout Ventura County, and it's available at community centers, libraries, galleries, city hall, chambers of commerce as well as a number of businesses, such as Borders Books, Music and Cafe. It's the only publication in the entire county devoted exclusively to promoting all of the cultural disciplines.

ARTS SCENE - The public access TV show produced by the Arts Council features information and interviews promoting the cultural activities of all member organizations and individual artist patrons. Each program airs every Wednesday at 7:30pm on TCI and Americast Channel 8. Co-hosts Georgeanne Lees and Chad Smith highlight a full month of cultural events and interview the people who make the arts happen in the Greater Conejo Valley and beyond. The May 1999 show celebrates a three year commitment to promoting community arts on television.

www.conejoarts.org - The Arts Council established their Web site in June of 1997 to further promote the arts. Each arts discipline has its own page, plus several pages for general arts information. Our Web site is linked to those of the City of Thousand Oaks, Conejo Recreation & Park District, Happenings Magazine and those of our member organizations and patron artists. In the month of March 1999 there were 18,389 successful hits to the Arts Council's web site. If you want to be noticed that's the place to be! Our Web site is an AMAZON.COM Associate which means that for every book you buy by accessing Amazon.com from Conejoarts.org, a small percentage is returned to our community to support the arts. Buy books and CD's from Amazon.com. Get great value, great service, and support your local arts!

THE GUIDE TO THE ARTS Membership Directory and Resource Guide - 1999-2000 edition currently in production - contains information about the arts from the City of Thousand Oaks, the Conejo Recreation & Park District, all of the nonprofit member organizations, and individual artists in all disciplines. This 48-page resource gives contact information, membership guidelines and other pertinent facts to assist residents in identifying an organization they would like to join or support. In addition it is useful in locating entertainment for community programs, and experts in the arts for workshops, seminars, or the classroom.

The Arts Council Board of Directors is particularly proud of the many programs we sponsor involving young people. One of the newest of these is the SHOWCASE CONCERTS IN THE GALLERY in the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery. By providing an opportunity for young musicians to hone their performance skills before an appreciative audience, we are developing both the performers and the audiences of tomorrow.

One of our longest associations is with the award-winning YOUNG ARTISTS ENSEMBLE. Now in its 19th season, the YAE involves young people from ages 10 through 19 in a variety of dramatic and musical productions. The adult staff are all professionally trained and are committed to providing valuable and meaningful experiences fo young thespians.

The Arts Council Board represents the nonprofit arts community on a number of important working committees:

Thousand Oaks Community Gallery - the ACCV representatives are members of the Gallery Steering Committee which sets operating procedures. And because the ACCV carries the umbrella liability insurance policy for the Gallery, it's more affordable for the exhibiting arts groups and individuals.

Civic Arts Plaza Board of Governors - the ACCV representative is a voting member and participates in making policy decisions which affect the nonprofit performing arts groups giving performances in the theaters.

Kavli Theatre Visual Arts Committee - the ACCV members represent the nonprofit visual arts interests, as well as bringing their own expertise to this giant endeavor of exhibiting visual art in the performing arts center.

Please join us in supporting excellent arts programming. Help us expand and improve creative thinking processes in our young people, develop their leadership skills, and build their self confidence through education in the arts. Help us to strengthen existing arts programs and to encourage new cultural endeavors, to assist artists in showcasing their work and to provide facilities for cultural activities for all ages.

The Arts Council, governed by a Board of Directors, provides assistance with the programming of community events and activities through a wide range of support services. Voting membership is available to all non-profit, arts related community organizations directly involved with the production and/or promotion of diverse arts programming, including environmental and fine arts, literature, music, dance, drama and arts education. Our valued patrons are individuals, families, community organizations and businesses who affirm the value of the arts with contributions that support the Council's work in developing the cultural life of the community.

Programs and services provided by the ACCV include creating and presenting educational programs, providing start-up assistance for fledging arts groups, advocating and assisting in the planning and development of community cultural activities, providing space for preparation, performance and exhibition of the arts, increasing visibility of the arts through the bimonthly ACCV ARTS CALENDAR, the weekly ARTS SCENE TV program, and the "Guide To The Arts & Membership Directory". In addition the ACCV provides a forum in which the area's arts organizations can meet to identify and address common concerns, issues and opportunities.

The arts community is represented by an Arts Council board member on the following community boards and committees: Thousand Oaks Community Gallery, Civic Arts Plaza Visual Arts Committee and Civic Arts Plaza Board of Governors.

The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley is headquartered in Hillcrest Center, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA.

Please contact us if you are a nonprofit cultural group and would like to be added to our calendar!
