Gone Are the Voices

This work is especially meaningful to me because it portrays a portion of the Franco-American Orphanage where my father lived for most of his childhood. It became a school and when I visited it a few years ago, classes were not in session and the building had a quiet, deserted atmosphere. As I studied it, I imagined my father and all those generations of orphans living there and I could almost hear their voices, laughing, crying, playing, singing. And so I titled my work “Gone Are the Voices.”
