THE DOORWAY and WALL HAVE MEMORIES:
Mystery continues to surround the haunted and historic Preston Castle. After a senate bill was passed in the 1880’s, the Preston School of Industry was built to rehabilitate youthful offenders. Convicted boys as young as 12, who had previously served time in San Quentin or Folsom, were the first to be transferred to “Preston Castle” in 1894. The Castle closed in 1960, but the intrigue of mystery, ghosts and murder remain. Amongst the famous line of inmates were Merle Haggard, Rory Calhoun, L.J. Cobb, Eddie Anderson (Rochester on The Jack Benny Show), tennis star Pancho Gonzales, and the infamous “Red Light Bandit” and murderer, Carl Chessman. You can tour this intriguingly haunted building in Ione, CA.
